A Simple Recipe For Detox, Hormone Balancing & Anti-Ageing Benefits

Apr 21, 2020

I just love the time of year when I crave warming spices and reach for them more often, to create nourishing dishes in the kitchen. As my spice section of the pantry has been getting a recent workout, I wanted to share a simple recipe that you can incorporate into your day to keep you warm over the cooler months, plus bring you an abundance of health giving properties.

Use Food As Medicine

Introducing you to my Sunshine Paste, based on the spice of turmeric which boasts an abundance of incredible health benefits.

From the ginger family, turmeric's active ingredient called curcumin is responsible for the yellow colouring and healing properties with the body.

The powerful liver protective and detoxification properties of this spice are enhanced due to its ability to increase glutathione levels (the body’s master antioxidant), therefore plays a powerful role in enhancing healthy hormone metabolism. Bye bye Oestrogen dominance

Turmeric is very healing for digestive and joint inflammation; supporting conditions such as IBS, ulcers, gallstones, arthritic aches and discomfort throughout the body. Yep, reach for this one regularly to overcome period pain!

This anti-ageing antioxidant rich spice promotes tissue regeneration and can also prevent abnormal blood clotting, supports blood circulation and possesses cancer-fighting properties.1,2

How To Incorporate Turmeric Into Your Day

A simple way add turmeric into your fav food and drinks is through my Sunshine Paste. Once a batch is made, you can use this as a health promoting addition to my recipes such as my Sunshine Smoothie, Sunshine Milk (find my recipe our popular Spring Kickstarter Program), added into an olive oil based salad dressing, mixed in while cooking eggs your favourite way, or used in a slow cooker, stir fry or curry meal. It will give your dish a vibrant gold colouring and bring a beautiful warmth as you enjoy it.

Adding a fat such as coconut oil, ghee or olive oil to your turmeric meal is important to help with the stem cell regenerative effects of the fat soluble compound in tumeric, called alpha-Turmerone.

Now for the super simple Sunshine Paste recipe.

Sunshine Paste

What you'll need:

1/4 cup filtered water

1 tsp coconut oil

1/8 cup turmeric powdered spice. I use this trusted organic brand

Pinch ground black pepper (to aid turmeric absorption)

What you'll need to do:

Pour half of the water into a saucepan over medium heat

Add turmeric and coconut oil and continually stir as the mixture heats up and thickens

Slowly keep adding the remainder of the water as you stir, so the paste remains smooth, then mix through the pepper

Once cooled, store in a glass container and the paste will last 2 weeks in the refrigerator

Add a Little Spice To your Day

Use this Sunshine Paste regularly to deliver turmeric's abundant detox, warming, antioxidant and anti ageing benefits for you and your loved ones.
