A Simple Recipe For Detox, Hormone Balancing & Anti-Ageing Benefits

I just love the time of year when I crave warming spices and reach for them more often, to create nourishing dishes in the kitchen. As my spice section of the pantry has been getting a recent workout, I wanted to share a simple recipe that you can incorporate into your day to keep you warm over the cooler months, plus bring you an abundance of health giving properties.

Use Food As Medicine

Introducing you to my Sunshine Paste, based on the spice of turmeric which boasts an abundance of incredible health benefits.

From the ginger family, turmeric's active ingredient called curcumin is responsible for the yellow colouring and healing properties with the body.

The powerful liver protective and detoxification properties of this spice are enhanced due to its ability to increase glutathione levels (the body’s master antioxidant), therefore plays a powerful role in enhancing healthy hormone metabolism. Bye bye Oestrogen dominance

Bubba Friendly Turkey Patties

This recipe was created by Nutritionist Diana Krisanski for the baby book, Thriving Bubba. Over to you Diana...

Turkey is a rich source of protein, iron and fat to incorporate into your baby's diet (see Thriving Bubba for specific time line introduction guidelines).

I have a few recipes for patties, slices and bites as they can be used as both a savoury snack and for meals on the go. Once cooked they freeze well and will last up to 3 months in the freezer but best consumed within 1 month of freezing.

You can mix it up by swapping in grated sweet potato, apple, finely chopped mushrooms or broccoli. You can also make a turkey bolognaise using similar ingredients; simply omit the egg and flour and add 500ml of broth, serve with cauliflower rice, mashed sweet potato or properly prepared brown rice.

Let's get cooking Mumma...

How to Keep Your Produce Fresher for Longer

How to Keep Your Produce Fresher for Longer

You arrive home, proud of your recent fresh vegetable and fruit purchase and happy that you’ve stocked up for the week.  A few days later, you want to whip up your families fav meal, only to find your once fresh produce is now looking rather limp.

If this happens to you regularly and you want to get the most out of your shop but also consider your health, keep your vegetable purchases as fresh as possible by following these handy storage guidelines.

Healthy Swaps

Avoid Using:

  • Alfoil
  • Plastic wrap
  • Plastic container use

Note: If plastic wrap is required, avoid the food touching the wrap. Placing a brown paper bag between the food and the plastic is an option.

Replace With:

  • Glass containers
  • Ceramic containers and bowls
  • Stainless steel containers and bowls
  • Brown paper bags
  • Tea towels

Washing Your Produce

Always wash your vegetables before preparing. You can do this just after you purchase (for those stored in the fridge),...

How To Protect Your Family From EMFs

How To Protect Your Family From EMFs

A big focus within my latest book, Thriving Bubba is helping Mumma's to create a nurturing environment for their little ones. An important factor to consider for this is to lower your exposure to Electromagnetic Fields, also known as EMFs.

What are EMFs?

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are an invisible field of energy, also known as radiation, which is created by electrically charged objects (when you combine an electric field with a magnetic field).

EMFs are nothing new- we’ve been receiving EMFs from the sun and the earth since the beginning of time. Even our own bodies have electrical and magnetic functions. But since the discovery of electricity, EMF levels have been steadily rising.” explains Dr Jill Carnahan at www.drjillcarnahan.com.

What creates EMFS?

Sources include mobile phone towers, smart meters, power lines, x-rays, MRI’s, UV lights, computers, radio signals, televisions and wireless devices...

My Gut Friendly Bubba Bread Recipe

My Gut Friendly Bubba Bread Recipe

Has your bubba's appetite increased and you're constantly searching for healthy snack options? I've been there! I felt like apples were on repeat as a popular snack in our household, so it was time for something new.

As we had not yet introduced gluten containing grains into our baby’s diet (and still haven't now at 16 months), I created this very simple bubba bread recipe that would avoid compromising the health of her developing gut. More on this topic to come in my upcoming baby book- you can register your interest over here

This bright orange bread cuts into small squares easily for your bubba to enjoy as a snack, added to a main meal and you could even use the squares to create a grain free 'sandwich' for older children.

What you'll need:

3/4 - 1 cup roasted and mashed sweet potato (roast your whole sweet potato with the skin on, for around 1.5 hours, or until very soft when pierced)

1/2 cup cassava flour (pick this...

Homemade Nut Milk

Been shopping for milk alternatives lately? There are now many dairy-free options on the market, which is helpful for families who prefer not to consumr pasteurised cows milk.

But having so many choices can cause confusion when trying to source a milk option free from ingredients that may compromise your health. For more information in seeking a pre-made milk alternative that is up to my naturopath standards, head over to this post

The most nutritious option? Try homemade. You’ll know exactly what is in your milk and the quality of ingredients used. Plus it tastes ahhmazing!

Here is a quick and easy homemade nut milk recipe, you can adapt to whatever nuts you have on hand or prefer the taste of. If you are using this as a comfort milk option for a baby (over 12 months), ensure you have introduced the nut into their diet (without symptoms of allergy or intolerance) previously. For the highest calcium content, opt for almonds.

How To Minimise The Effects Of Chlorinated Pools

Do you strive to live a low-tox lifestyle, but concerned about your (or little ones) exposure to chlorine in swimming pools?

As your skin is your largest organ, it therefore absorbs much of what you apply topically and expose it to- the chlorine in your water supply and swimming pools included.

So what’s the big issue with Chlorine?

Chlorine is antibacterial, so if you're inhaling and ingesting the fumes and water, it will effect your microbiome such as the beneficial bacteria on your skin and within your gut. We know our good bugs play a major role in detoxification, digestion of your foods, building your immunity, supporting your brain and hormone health among much more. When your levels are under attack, this can contribute to health conditions throughout your body.

The gases released from chlorine are also lung irritants and if the experience of many Naturopathic patients is to go by, chlorine is an eye and skin irritant and...
