Our Second Trimester Experience

I sit in the warm morning sun, I am truly thankful for being provided with Vitamin D rich rays this far into the 2018 Autumn season. The Naturopath in me is smiling as I run through the long list of benefits the sunshine vitamin is having on my bubs, who is 29 weeks into his (or her) journey hanging out in the cosy comfort of my womb. Immunity (tick), neurodevelopment (tick), bone health (tick)….

Officially now in our third and final trimester, I wanted to share with you the highs and lows of my second tri experience, informed decisions we have made and ways that I have holistically supported my body for a healthy pregnancy and bubs to be. If you missed it, you can catch up on my first trimester over here.

Keeping It Real- My Second Tri Experience

Hallelujah, I started to feel normal again with the constant motion-sickness-like feeling eventually fading around 14 weeks. I was proud of myself for not splurging on refined carbs during the first trimester and now that I was...

5 Tips For A Healthy Easter

5 Tips For A Healthy Easter

Easter is just around the corner! Before you assume your long weekend will be filled with sugary binges and consequently an addition to your waistline, try a few of my tips below. I challenge you to make it a healthy and happy one.

1. START YOUR DAY LIGHTLY:

If you are having a large Easter lunch or dinner, then there is no need to stuff yourself silly from when you first wake up. Some healthy options include a fresh vegetable juice or smoothie.

If you are still hungry 20 minutes later, try some protein rich eggs, nuts or seeds.

2. HELP OUT YOUR DIGESTION:

It is hard work breaking down large amounts and varieties of food over the day. Give your stomach a kick start, by starting each meal with juice ½ lemon, or 2 tsp apple cider vinegar, in warm water.

3. WORK IT OFF:

Keep active through the day, to help burn off any larger food portions consumed. Hiking, swimming, surfing, fishing, skiing and other water sports as...

Our First Trimester Experience

It's been exciting time for hubby and I as we recently announced we will be welcoming a precious baby into the world this winter.

Pregnancy is such a magical time, growing & nurturing a little human inside. It's a special time full of joy and excitement, where the mumma-to-be is glowing. Of course, supporting many patients through their personal pregnancies, I was not naive to the contrary. Nausea, exhaustion and cravings are among common symptoms of the first tri, which pose a challenge to keep the special news a secret during the early stages.

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and it's the best I've felt in the past 9! I was no stranger to the dreaded morning sickness (who am I kidding, it's all day sickness), among other symptoms and here I wish to share with you my highs and lows throughout this time.

What I Felt

Let's start with the baby brain. It IS a thing... already! Hence why I took a journal each day with some notes, as I knew I'd forget my main points to share my experience...

Natural Hay Fever Remedies

Natural Hay Fever Remedies

Spring has sprung, the birds are chirping and flowers are blooming.  Isn’t it beautiful?

Not for some! It’s that time of year when many of my patients are miserably sneezing their way through my door, complaining of their dreaded hay fever symptoms.

I have been lucky enough to escape such symptoms over the years, but whenever I see a patient reach for the drugs to suppress their symptoms, I am determined to heal their hay fever  as nature intended.

If you or a loved one are already itchy and sneezing your way through spring, read on for safe and effective natural hay fever remedies to stop your hay fever in its tracks.

CAUSES OF HAY FEVER

Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction to pollen from  grasses, weeds and trees.

The body of a hay fever sufferer believes pollen is an invader and exposure to pollen triggers the production of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. Mold and dust are...

How To Fight Off The Cold & Flu with Foods

How To Fight Off The Cold & Flu with Foods

Are you fearful of the cold and flu season? When life is busy, your stress levels are increased, or your food choices are not optimal, your body is more vulnerable. This is a perfect time for a virus like the common cold, to take hold and present symptoms within your body.

BUT, it's time to stress-less and trust your body's innate healing process. Given the right tools through a nourishing diet, lifestyle practises and mindset choices, your body can build resilience towards viruses and prevent them from getting the better of you.

To help nurture your body for cold and flu prevention, or for a swifter recovery, here’s some of my top diet and lifestyle tips.

  • INCREASE VITAMIN C RICH FOODS.

The highest food sources of vitamin C are sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), capsicums, green leafy’s such as kale and rocket, broccoli, strawberries, citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, rock-melon and...

How To Be Healthy While Travelling

How To Be Healthy While Travelling

After months of counting down, tonight I am officially jetting off to France for a holiday! I’ll be taking a much needed break, to rest my hard working adrenal glands (stress glands) and take some time out to relax, be present, soak up the sunshine and the incredible scenery of Paris and the French countryside. The best part is I lucky enough to share this incredible experience with my Mum

The general response I receive after mentioning my upcoming trip to the France, is in regards to the abundance of bread and cheese and how I will personally struggle to keep up my healthy routine.

Sure, I am well that cheese and bread make up a traditional part of the French diet, but I am determined to learn how their food quality and manufacturing processes differ to the Australian standard. I want to show that healthy travel in France is possible.

Planning is key to a healthy holiday, so I have jotted down some of...
